Canon Inc. lowered its full-year earnings outlook on Wednesday (24 July 2013), expressing concern that worse-than-expected economic conditions in China and Europe are hurting the companys digital camera business. The Japanese office equipment and camera maker cut its 2013 net profit forecast by 10% to £¤260 billion ($2.6 billion), while lowering its sales outlook by 3%. The downward revision comes three months after Canon raised its annual estimates on the back of a weaker yen that was helping to improve its earnings. Canon said it had expected the Chinese economy to improve after the countrys May 1 Labor Day holiday. But Mr. Tanaka said the rebound never materialized after Chinese policy makers prioritized monetary policy tightening and economic reforms.
