RM2DF6KTB–1940s, historical, a farmer in field steering a plough being pulled by two shire horses England, UK. Before mechanisation, this was the traditional method of ploughing or turning the soil in a field for new planting but was intensive manual work. The use of horses rather than the original oxen meant more acres of land could be ploughed per day as the horses were faster. An amazing farm tool, the plough has been used for around 4,000 years and while there have been some improvements, the basic technology has remained the same, that of cutting a long slice of soil and turning it upside down.
