RM2A52A80–Studies of Angels (recto); Panthea before Cyrus? (verso), 1655-1660?. Dorigny was the collaborator and son-in-law of Simon Vouet, the leading painter working in Paris in the mid-1600s. Their drawing styles are similar, and this sheet was once attributed to Vouet. However, the airy, floating drapery, firm contour lines, and regular parallel hatching lines are all typical of Dorigny's technique in black chalk. Although we do not know of a painting to which this drawing relates, the flying angels indicate that Dorigny had a religious subject in mind when he drew them.

Formerly ascribed to the French painter Simon Vouet (1590-1649), Rest on the Flight into Egypt has only recently been attributed to Poerson, a collaborator and follower of Vouet. Intended to be a small devotional picture, this painting on oak panel depicts a quiet scene of the Holy Family resting; the Virgin Mary sits while an angel brings the plump young Christ Child fruit, and St. Joseph leads their donkey away to graze. The delicate pinks and blues and the transparent treatment of light and shadow create a gentle domestic atmosphere, characteristic of
