The 3 chevrons and a crown on his sleeve denote he was rank of Cadet Colour Sergeant. He is standing next to his younger brother. Both lads wear short trousers and boots, the youngest a jacket and flat cap. In the early 1920's short trousers and long socks became normal for boys and they wore them up until the age of 13 and the fashion continued up until the 1960's. U.K.
