07 February 2018, Denmark, Agger: Washed-up plastic waste on a beach at the North Sea in the Thy national park. Scientists estimate that there are more than 100 million tons of plastic in the oceans. It slowly decomposes into smaller and smaller fragments, which marine organisms consume with food. In the ocean, plastic lasts a very long time, often several centuries. A plastic bottle takes 450 years to completely decompose. | usage worldwide
