Located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Denver's elevation is 5,280 feet and is known as the "Mile High City". The new Denver International Airport (DIA) opened in 1995 and is one of the countries largest airports, can be seen towards the right corner of the photograph. Above and to the right of DIA is the closed Stapleton Airport with its snow covered runways.
