[ 1920s Japan - Oebashi Bridge in Osaka ] — Oebashi Bridge over the Dojima River in Osaka. The large building is the Dojima Building, constructed in 1923 (Taisho 12) by Takenaka Komuten. The building with the dome housed Fukutoku Seimen Hoken (福徳生命保険). It was designed by Kingo Tatsuno (辰野金吾, 1854-1919) and Yasushi Kataoka (片岡安, 1876-1946) and opened in 1919 (Taisho 8). The steel bridge on this photo was built in 1910 (Meiji 43). Construction of the current stone bridge was started in 1930 (Showa 5). This effectively dates this photo to the 1920s. 20th century vintage postcard.
