A small Spanish fort, ‘El Torreón de Cojímar’ faces the sea on a beachhead of Cojímar, a sea fishing village, some 12 km east of Havana in Cuba The fort is part of Havana’s fortification system and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built in 1649 to protect the coast, it helped to prevent the British fleet from landing, The British landed further east in 1762.
