A street scene featuring a fountain in the Old Town, Chur, Graubunder, Switzerland in 1949. The water feature forms a ‘roundabout’ at the convergence of several streets in the town centre. It is capped by a sculpture of a bear holding a standard. Shops are open and shoppers are out and about. A drinks delivery truck is parked in the road. This is from an old amateur black and white 35mm negative – a vintage post-war photograph.

Chur is the capital and largest town of the Swiss canton of the Grisons located on the east bank of the Rhine. It is reputedly the oldest town of Switzerland. Earlier photographs of Chur show this fountain, but there is the strong possibility that this has now been demolished or replaced. This is from an old amateur black and white 35mm negative and will look soft and grainy if used at too large a size – a vintage post-war photograph.
