The illustration shows a woman very pleased with her new living room curtains. In 1882, at the age of 47, Thomas French, with his partner John Monks, founded his company, Thomas French and Sons in Hulme, Lancashire, England, UK. They soon developed and sold a wide range of webs and tapes. In 1908, after Thomas died, his son George French became the new company head. His contribution to the company was to develop a range of fabric and metal small wares such as curtain tags, hooks and runway fittings. In 1922 production began of 'Rufflette', the world's first pocketed curtain pleating tape. This tape came complete with draw-cords and pockets for hooks or rings. A few years later came Rufflette curtain rail and hooks - vintage 1950s graphics for editorial use only.
