Anne Alcock, 18-year-old niece of Captain John Alcock, who made the first non-stop Atlantic flight in 1919, clocks out of the Post Office Tower building in London as she takes part in the Daily Mail Transatlantic Air Race to New York. She went by foot, train and car to Stansted Airport to board an Airways charter flight to Kennedy Airport. From there she was going by helicopter and car to the Empire State Building. There were more than 100 entries in the race.
