A monumental work by the architect and designer Gaetano Pesce appeared in Piazza De Ferrari. It is an installation depicting a huge armchair and a sphere, in front of the Liguria Region palace. The initiative, promoted by the Department of Culture of the City, will accompany an exhibition dedicated to the works of the artist at Villa Croce, where you can see another monumental work never exhibited before. Pesce, born in La Spezia in 1909, studied Architecture at the University of Venice and participated in the Group N, a collective that in the years '60 dealt with art modeled on the Bauhaus. Pesce’s work is present in collections of important museums of the world such as Moma in New York and San Francisco, Vitra Museum in Germany, Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Centre Pompidou in Paris. UP OF STRACCI GIGANTE (2016) is on display in Piazza De Ferrari and is an out-of-scale version of the famous UP5&6. Another version, smaller in size, is exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Villa Croce in the exhibition by Gaetano Pesce "In memory of a friend". The UP5 and the pouf Up6, born in 1969 from the collaboration with the company C&B (now B&B Italia) are the most iconic objects created by Gaetano Pesce, a true manifesto of radical design and made in Italy of the '60s-70s.
