Designed by Roy Chadwick, the Lancaster was a WW2 heavy bomber made by Avro (A.V. Roe and Company), a British manufacturer founded in 1910 in Manchester, Lancashire, England, UK. The prototype of the Lancaster made its maiden flight in January 1941. The aircraft had a seven-made crew, with its average age being only 22 years old.

The 'Lanc', as it was known colloquially, became one of the most heavily used of the Second World War night bombers.
