British Major Pitcairn, along with Lieutenant Colonel Smith, marched 800 Regulars to Lexington and then Concord. Pitcairn was killed in action during the Battle of Bunker Hill. Considered one of the most respected British officers by both his men and the colonists, he was buried at the Old North Church in Boston.
