Bronze statue of Margarita Xirgu at the Roman theatre, Merida, Badajoz Province, Extremadura, Spain. Margarita Xirgu Subirá, 1888 - 1969, Spanish stage actress. In 1933 she played the role of Medea in the play of the same name by ancient Greek author Euripedes which was the first work performed in the newly restored Roman theatre. The statue is the work of Spanish sculptor Eduardo Acero Calderon, 1966 - . The Archaeological Ensemble of Merida is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
