More information:

This siren was put on the roof of Hillingdon House, RAF Uxbridge. Two large rotors sat in a metal drum with slots. An electric motors turned the rotor and the air was forced out through the slots at high speed to produce a sound. The warning signal had a distinctive rise and fall sound. This was created by chaining the power to the siren. The ‘all clear’ signal was a single, continuous tone.
