Christchurch, New Zealand - 17 May 2012 A major earthquake, registering 6.3 on the Richter scale, hit Christchurch, New Zealand on 22 February 2011. It caused widespread damage across the city, particularly so for stone buildings; 185 people lost their lives. Over a year after the disaster, we can see the crumbling and shattered buildings, in this case just inside the most damaged central 'Red Zone'.
