Copenhagen - Saturday, May 03, 2014: Nets, who provides most of the infrastructure for handling payments by credit card and digital money transfers, moves into the line of fire, as the Danish media scandal during this week evolves to become the most grave in the country. It all started with release of a new book, published Tuesday, April 29th, which revealed, that Denmark’s leading gossip and celebrity magazine, Se og Hør (English: “See and Listen”), from 2008 to 2012 had a deep and illegal source in Nets, who for black money provided the magazine with information about celebrities – and the royal families – whereabouts. When the celebrity used his credit card, the deep source in Nets would automatically track the information from a “want list”, issued by the magazine, which this person allegedly and unlawful should had inserted into the Nets system The journalist would instantly receive the information about exactly where and for which purpose the credit card had been used. Journalists at Se og Hør allegedly received up to 100 SMS per day. so they with unerring certainty could track the celebrities down and get the photos and the story about what they were doing right now. The revelations in the new book immediately received credibility through various news releases in leading Danish media, putting more and more substance to the accusations about Se og Hør’s unlawful methods. However, the ever growing scandal contained another scandal, which took momentum by the end of the week, raising the question: How has this systematic misuse of personal data during 4 years been possible? As it points to a security breach within Nets, this organization is now moving into focus of the scandal. And the same is the government, which in March 2014 blessed the sale of Nets to an investment group led by the American: Bain Capital. Critics against the sale pointed to that this could give spy organisations like the US NSA easier access. Nets employ some 2.800 people in 5 countries.
