Eilean Donan Castle, the most famous Highland castle located in a beautiful setting near the Kyle of Lochalsh. While often surrounded by water, on this occasion the water levels had receded to reveal a colorful lake bed in the foreground. The name Eilean Donan, or island of Donan, is likely named for the 6th century Irish Saint, Bishop Donan who came to Scotland around 580 AD. The castle dates to the 13th century and was restored during the early 20th century.
