The front of the Bonito lava flow which erupted from the west base of the Sunset Crater volcano and flowed over cinder fields and surrounding countryside about 1000 years ago. Sunset Crater is the youngest cinder cone of northern Arizona's San Francisco volcanic field. Other volcanic domes and features, including O'Leary Peak and Darton Dome can be seen on the horizon. The bonito lava flow basalt is rough textured with slabs and ah ah. This is a popular location for geology tourism. Flagstaff Volcanoes Series.
