This illustration dates to the 1800s and accompanied "Japhet, In Search of a Father" (1836) and shows a bull in a shop. The novel was written by Captain Frederick Marryat, a Royal Navy officer during the Napoleonic Wars. He later went on to write novels, based in part on his experiences at sea. Here, in "Japhet, in Part I, Chapter VII, a mad bull enters a shop and tries to jump the counter. The bull did manage to toss the shop owner, Mr. Cophagus.
