Feb. 29, 2012 - Housewife and mother - A Munich medal hopeful:..... Gallant performer, Mrs Joyce Smith, the 34-year-old house wife and mother from Watford, is one of Britain's most promising hopes for the Olympic Games in Munich this year. After her recent performances in the 1500 metres in four minutes 12.8 seconds (only 0.1 seconds outside the U.K. and Commonwealth record belonging to Rite Ridley) Joyce certainly has put herself in the running for Games selection. Training two hours daily, she still manages to fit in working two days a week as a wages clerk for a local firm and running her home. Although she has been running for 17 years it was only recently that she decided ''to have a bash for Munich''. and return to international competition after a spell of about 12 years, and now looks our best 1500 metre hope. So now it's the gruelling sessions practising for the cross country championships and along to break the strain, Joyce sometimes takes Lisa, her three-year-old daughter. Young Lisa doesn't actually run with her mum, but stands at the family front gate cheering her as she runs past. (Credit Image: Keystone Pictures USA/ZUMAPRESS)
