--File--Pedestrians walk past a branch of Guangzhou Securities in Beijing, China, 25 September 2010. Chinas securities regulator has approved the establishment of a securities investment advisory joint venture between Hong Kongs Hang Seng Bank Ltd. and Guangzhou Securities Co., a person familiar with the situation said Thursday (22 March 2012). The new company will be the first of its kind under the Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement with mainland China. Both sides sealed the CEPA agreement in 2003 and signed an eighth supplement in December 2011 aimed at boosting economic vitality in the former British colony, whose service sector has faced growing competition from Chinese cities such as Shanghai in recent years.
