The caption for this image reads: Toyokuni—Manzai (New Year) Dancers. He was recognized as a master of ukiyo-e and he was especially known for his kabuki actor prints. He lived 1769 to 1825. The ukiyo-e style was popular between the 17th and 19th centuries. The term translates as "picture[s] of the floating world." There were wood prints, as well as paintings of female beauties actors, sumo wrestlers, historical scenes, folk tales, travel, landscape, flowers.
