Marble statue of Saints Cyrill and Methodius by neoclassical sculptor Emanuel Max in the Basilica of Assumption of Mary in Velehrad, South Moravia, Czech Republic. The original statue was made by Czech-German neoclassical sculptor Emanuel Max in 1842-45. The copy by sculptor Ferdinand Neumann from 1907 is now in the Velehrad Basilica. The marble original by Emanuel Max is now in the Tyn Church in Prague, Czech Republic. The full name of the Velehrad Basilica is the Basilica of Assumption of Mary and Saints Cyrill and Methodius. The village of Velehrad near Uherske Hradiste is one of the most important pilgrimage places in the Czech Republic. According to one tradition, in the Middle Ages it was the capital of the Slavic state of Great Moravia.
