Alexander Sergeevich born 17 February 1916 in Petrograd ( Russia ) and died on 29 March 1940 , is a prince of Russian origin, and a player of rugby , which played with the England team and who died during the Second World War . Alexander Obolensky, the son of Prince Serge Obolensky , an officer of the Imperial Guard cavalry of the Tsar and his wife Princess Luba. Their name originates from the Russian city of Obolensk . A year after the birth of Alexander, they abandoned the Russian fleeing the Russian Revolution of 1917 and they moved to Muswell Hill in North London . Alexander Obolensky was in school at Trent College in Derbyshire before joining the University of Oxford , where he earned his place twice to the Varsity Match ( Oxford - Cambridge ) as a wing three-quarter . He then played for Leicester Tigers between 1934 and 1939. His selection for the England team pours the ink because it is not a British citizen , he gained citizenship after 1936. Alexander Obolensky knows his debut with the England team on 4 January 1936 against the team from New Zealand . He scored two tries on his debut , the British fighting for the first time the All Blacks . He knows only three selections all that year (against Wales on 18 January , the Ireland on 8 February and Scotland on March 21 ), and it does not register any other trial, but his name is entered in the legend of the sport , the first test is an overflow along the line , the second is a slash that marked a generation forever. The outbreak of the Second World War in 1939 , Obolensky joined the 54th Squadron of the Royal Air Force . On 29 March 1940 he died at training when his Hawker Hurricane crashed at Martlesham Heath Airfield in Suffolk . He was 24 years. He is buried in a military cemetery near Ipswich .
