This photolithograph from a rubbing shows the top part of the celebrated Christian Inscription on a large stone monument in Singanfu, China, that dates to A.D 781. It is written in Chinese and Syriac characters. It has 1900 Chinese characters and 700 Syrian names with Chinese translations. The stone records Persian and Chinese Christian activities following the arrival of the Persian missionary Alopen at the court of the emperor in a.D. 635. It also includes a creed that is similar to the Christian Apostles' Creed. The image appeared in Sir Henry Yule's Travels of Marco Polo (1921). The stone was discovered in A.D. 1623. It is nine feet high, three and a half feet wide, a a foot thick.
