Former NYC Mayors David Dinkins (L) and Ed Koch (R) endorse NYC Comptroller William Thompson for re-election on the steps of NY City Hall on July 20, 2005. Thompson faces no opponent in the Democratic Primary and only token opposition in the general election from a candidate on the Conservative Party. Thompson's office controls thousands of millions of dollars in city money and union pension funds as well as being the fiscal watchdog for city spending. (© Richard B. Levine)
