Mother and Baby West Indian Manatee or Trichechidae floating in tropical blue water in Crystal River Florida. Image is split shot where half of my lens was under water with the other half being above the water line to show the blue sky and trees This digital image was shot in Crystal River Florida in Three Sisters Spring. This last unspoiled and undeveloped habitat in Kings Bay, the headwaters of the Crystal River, is critical for protection of the West Indian Manatee. The springs in the bay, with their constant 72 degree Fahrenheit water, provide an essential warm water refuge for the manatees that congregate there in the winter months. Image was captured with a Canon 5D Mark II camera with a Canon 16-35mm lens set to 16mm. They were both housed in an Ikelite underwater housing. No flash was fired for this image.
