The backside of this anhinga chick drapes much like a fur stole as it communicates with its sibling in the nest.

This Anhinga anhinga chick at its nest with a sibling. The back of the anhinga feather patterns from this angle remind me of the fur stole my grandmother once had. Anhinga look very dapper in their adult plumage but this combination of youthful downy fuzz and the black feathers extending from the blue pin feather sheaths at the wing margins tucked in as they are, looks oddly elegant as well. Soon the pink skinhead will be covered with feathers too and the bird will mature into the elegance of its species.
