Gabriel Hinojos, 29, (center), stands talking to his good friend Francisco Hernandez, 29, (right of center), beside a bonfire he and his friends started in the backyard of his home in the Boyle Heights neighorbhood of East Los Angeles, CA. Almost weekly, Hinojos and his friends get together and chill around a fire and talk. Gabriel and Francisco have been friends for more than 10 years and often spend time with each othersÕ families. They were once part of the same gang, Florence 13, and both of them have been working for a number of years to remove themselves from the gang. Hinojos was actually the first to start the process and pushed Hernandez to do the same. Hinojos has been in and out of jail since he was 18, but hasn't been back since July of 2007. Though Hernandez was just sentenced to serve six months in prison for violating police orders to stay away from his old neighborhood, Florence. Hinojos now lives with his wife and four children and has had a regular paying job for the last few months.
