Visitors in Cathedral Square, Christchurch, on a bright overcast day in summer. One of the last images of the cathedral, taken on Feb 18th 2011, four days before the city was hit by an earthquake of magnitude 6.3, during which the cathedral was badly damaged. The subsequent aftershocks caused more and more damage, and the building, now without its tower and rose window, and almost a ruin, became the subject of a campaign to save it, which as at December 2012 had still not been finally settled.
