The alms-giving ceremony, where Buddhist monks receive food donations every morning from the local people takes place in the pre-dawn at the Wat Saen temple complex in Luang Pradang, Laos. The saffron-robed monks have their alms baskets ready and join the procession to receive their one meal of the day. They are taking a moment to pray at the golden stupa on the site. Tourists can also join the alms-giving ceremony and give food to the monks if visitors follow a few simple rules (e.g., dress properly, bare feet, kneeling, etc.). A tourist gives a handful of rice to the monks.
