January 21, 2018 - Munich, Bavaria, Germany - Just days after the Munich police announced that the right-extremist, anti-immigrant vigilante group the “Soldiers of Odin” should count on being “intensively checked” if seen patrolling, they resurfaced in Munich, this time with their “Vize-Leader” (mixture of German and English) Jürgen Gröbel. The police went further to mention that they would also be verified if they are violating Bavaria’s assembly laws, particularly in acting as a policing/vigilante group. The group was first spotted at Munich’s Hauptbahnhof (central station), then later at Pasing’s station, where they appeared to be patrolling the different platforms, after which they reappeared at Sendlinger Tor in the City Center, then were intensively checked by police on Sonnenstrasse/Stachus. At least three of the group of eight wore jackets, with at least one other wearing a cap with their logo. These figures are relevant for determinations of the nature of the criminal offenses that may or may not have taken place..In November, the Soldiers of Odin were documented at the Pasinger Bahnhof (train station). After some weeks, the Bavarian Verfassungsschutz (Geheimdienst, Secret Service) announced that they were under monitoring as a right-extremist group and they connections to the right-extremist scene have been verified. The Soldiers of Odin originated in Finland and now have chapters worldwide. The group is known for “pseudosocial” actions, such as helping the homeless or collecting for animal shelters in order to look less light right-extremists.
