Old wardour Castle, near Tisbury, Salisbury was built in the 14th Century as a lightly fortified fashionable luxury residence by the St Martin family. The castle was under seige during the Civil was and suffered a great deal of damage before it surrendered to the forces of Parliament. When New Wardour Castle was built the Old castle was incorporated into the grounds as an ornamantal feature. The castle has featured in a number of films, including Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves staring Kevin Costner.
