RMPR8G97–Illustration of a scene from the Pyramus and Thisbe myth as described by Ovid. Thisbe arrives at the mulberry tree and throws up her arms at the sight of the dying Pyramus who lies next to the tree. The handle of a knife protrudes from his chest. Butterflies fly amidst the leaves of the fruitful tree and the lion is shown running away in the distance.

RM2RRJ88N–Folding fan with scene from Vertumnus & Pomona, c.1750. In his 'Metamorphoses' (XIV: 623-771), Ovid tells of the countless forms that the God Vertumnus took before he could win the nymph Pomona. Only after he had made a plea for love in the form of an old woman and then taken the form of a young man, did Pomona become his. The front of the fan is a Bloemaert-like representation. On the front of the leaf, a particularly finely painted, ornamental border under which are two mermaids in the left corner and in the right corner a deer followed by a dog.

RM2A50B3G–Boreas Abducting Oreithyia, c. 1755-1760. Pierre took the subject of this drawing from the celebrated work the Metamorphoses by the Roman poet Ovid (43 bc-ad 17), which recounts the loves of the gods and goddesses of antiquity. Oreithyia, daughter of Erectheus, king of Athens, so inspired the passion of the god of the north wind, Boreas, that he descended to the earth to kidnap her. Although this subject was not especially common, Ovid was a favorite source for painters during the 1700s. Pierre was influenced here by a tapestry designed by François Boucher showing the same scene.
