Located 125km southwest of Tehran, Qom (Ghom), is the 8th largest city in Iran with a population of over 1 million. It is considered holy by Shia Islam, as it is the site of the shrine of Fatima Masumeh, sister of Imam Reza. The city is the largest center for Shia scholarship in the world; it is also a significant destination of pilgrimage. Qom is also famous for a brittle toffee called Sohan which is considered a souvenir of the city.
