RM2BTBGPF–A full length 1842 portrait of Thomas Wakely MP (1795 – 16 May 1862) , Coroner for Middlesex and editor of the Lancet magazine. He was a noted social reformer who campaigned against incompetence, privilege and nepotism as well as the founding editor of The Lancet and radical Member of the British Parliament . He campaigned in parliament against flogging & for Poor Laws, police bills, newspaper tax and Lord's Day observance and for Chartism, the Tolpuddle Martyrs, free trade, Irish nationalism and, of course, medical reforms. Charles Dickens, was a friend and frequent guest at his home.
