Traffic at a near standstill on the M25 heading north at Staines after a crash involving a tanker and a car. The motorway was closed between junctions 13 and 14. 5/1/04: Motorists were facing long delays as the start of major roadworks on the M25 coincided with the return to work after the New Year break. The two year project to widen a section of the motorway near Heathrow Airport in West London also began on the first day back for most schools. Four lanes remained in use in each direction but they were narrower and had a 40mph speed limit.
