This image is exclusive to Alamy. Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem or The Trip To Jerusalem, both names exist on the signs, is known locally just as The Trip. It was built at the foot of the sandstone rock on which Nottingham Castle stands, with the rock forming the walls and ceiling of a couple of the rooms inside. It purports to be the oldest inn in the country and to have been built in 1189 AD though this is disputed, with other local pubs claiming to be the oldest, notably The Salutation Inn and The Bell Inn.
