Photograph showing 'Street Doctor' in the Street Life in London book which has been sold for £10, 500 at Dominic Winter Auctions, South Cerney, Gloucestershire. The book had been listed with a guide price of £4000-6000. A rare book which was the first to document the lives of everyday Londoners in 1877 has been put up for auction. Produced at the dawn of photography the fascinating historical document features portraits raning from road sweepers to flower sellers. Scottish photo pioneer John Thomson worked with radical journalist Adolphe Smith to capture the unique historical snapshot of the Victorian age where Londoners were witnessing the invention of the phonograph. the first tennis tournament at Wimbledon and the first performance of Tchaikovsky's ballet Swan Lake.
