Inscriptions: Inscription in central field on plaque held by man right of center on GCPA 0239472: O DULCE MARIA Inscriptions: Inscription in central field on banderole held by man in lower center on GCPA 0239472: [O] PIA Inscriptions: Inscription in central field on plaque held by man at right on GCPA 0239472: AD TE CLAMANS Slender columns divide scenes; top portion of tapestry (L to R), rod of Aaron, kept in Ark of Covenant; Ark of Covenant; crowned & enthroned Madonna (Virgin Mary & Christ-child), flanked by angels playing musical instruments; Prophet Isaiah holding plaque showing tree of Jesse; bottom portion of tapestry: center, Madonna enthroned, flanked by angels & personifications of before him stand Mercy holding lilies (L) & Chastity (?) holding turtle dove; 2 groups of figures flanking Christ, secular society (L) & ecclesiastics (R); left, queen of Sheba (?) gives Solomon (?) gold, precious stones & spices; right, unidentified (Old Testament?) scene, couple embraces as emperor stands above them, surrounded by figures (BRD) vines of flowers within compartmentalized rectangles interspersed with squares containing birds Possibly woven in Brussels (Campbell). Patch work quilt of 1 tapestry panel, rather than more than 1 tapestry. This panel was extensively restored, rearranged & rewoven before being sold [by French & Co.] (Campbell). Tapestry is represented as 3 seperate panels, however, I believe they were once a single panel which was cut apart. Thus, GCPA 0239377, 0239200, 0202516:0202518, 0202520:0202523 show the 2 fragments which were formerly the top of the panel, & GCPA 0239472:0239474,
