October i, 190T.] THE INDIA RUBBER WORLD 21 NEW GOODS AND SPECIALTIES IN RUBBER. RUBBER FLOOR TILE. A PATENT has been granted to George H. Bennett, ofNew York, for a novel construction in rubber floortiles. In brief, the new system consists of a series oftiles, completely covering the floor, each tile havingportions cut away from the top, to form channels or recesseshaving vertical walls. Locking pieces or tiles are provided to. fit into these recesses and fill the spaces between their surfaceportions and to engage such base tiles to secure them togetherlaterally. It is intended that the inlaid rubber sections shallbe of a diflerent color from the base tiles, in order that a mo-saic effect may be produced. In the figures presented here-with, selected from the drawings filed at the patent office, areshown two designs—one in which the inlaid tiles are octagonalin shape and one square. In each case there appears in theopen space in the center of such inlaid tile a view of one cor-ner of each of four base tiles, illustrating the manner in whichthe base tiles are locked together. In the sectional piece ap-pearing between the other two cuts is indicated the depth towhich the base tiles are channeled for the reception of the in-terlocking rings or squares. It may be added that this systemis capable of a great variety of designs, and is not confined tothe two which are illustrated on this page.
