The area developed a colorful and exotic reputation, perhaps because of its proximity to two stretches of seddy bars that ran along Market Street: 'Skid Row,' which was on Market between Eighth and Ninth, and 'Prizefighters' Row,' on Market between Sixth and Seventh Streets. The district was demolished in the 1960s and rebuilt as a parking structure for the new Busch Stadium that opened in 1966.
