Jul. 07, 1990 - The Devil's Wrath: A huge image of the devil mounted over the entrance to the Gotthard-tunnel mat the many drivers traveling south, July 14. Those stuck in the heavy traffic were also given a leaflet by Greenpeace activists that describes in detail the ecological damage caused by individual transport. The Gotthare-route- highly frequented all year through - usually gets jammed during vacation time. With the banner over the tunnel Greenpeace indicated that the traffic-plagued people living along the Gotthard-route might one day do as the devil in he led times: chested of a prize promised by farmers near the Gotthard the devil smacked a heavy stone onto a newly built bridge. Luckily for the farmers the devil missed - for the bridge secured the trade route to the South. (Credit Image: Keystone Pictures USA/ZUMAPRESS)
