Jun. 06, 1968 - Big Air-Sea rescue operation begins after dramatic distress signal from Yachtsman in Atlantic race: A dramatic air-sea rescue operation began in the Atlantic today after a distress signal was picked up from Frenchman Joan de Kat in his trimaran Yaksha, a competitor in the lone Trans-Atlantic yacht race. His message, which said the yacht was breaking-up, came early today when he was 600 miles West of Ireland. All shipping in the area have been alerted.
