Portrait of a Karen-Paduang Long Neck Woman holding her son in the Baan Tong Luang Hill-Tribe Village of Chiang Mai Province in Northern Thailand. There are a number of different tribes found in this village like the Karen, Palong and Hmong tribes. The Karen-Paduang Long Neck tribe are a Tibetan-Burmese ethnic group who are originally from Myanmar/Burma and not native to Thailand. These are refugees from Myanmar escaping persecution. While enduring hardships and having limited rights as refugees, this tribe like this mother and child are content, gracious and very warm and inviting to visitors. Many sell souvenirs and/or handicrafts as a source of income. Photographed in May 2014.
