Nepal government had provided public holiday inside the Kathmandu valley for this festival.It is an annual cultural cum religious ritual of displaying the black jewel-studded bhoto (vest) believed to be of then Nagraj, the serpent king. Machhindranath is revered as a god of good harvest and prosperity. Paying homage to Lord Machhindranath is believed to bring good luck and fulfill one's wishes. A Living goddess Kumari attending the Bhoto Jatra festival, in Jawalakhel, Lalitpur.
