Fishing While Flooding: Alternative Food Solution Rainy season often results in flooding on the low-lying plain ground of Karawang regency, an area known as a major rice producer in West Java province of Indonesia. Crops are sometimes damaged. People in some villages try to see the flood season as a window of opportunity to look for an alternative, additional protein source: freshwater fishes. Mainly with pushnets, they fish together on the flooded rice fields and irrigation canals.
