The Churchill Gardens Estate was designed by architects Powell and Moya (Phillip Powell and John Hidalgo Moya) and built between 1946 and 1962. According to Wikipedia "it was the only housing estate completed under the Abercrombie Plan to redevelop the capital on more 'efficient' lines". It became a model for much subsequent post-war public housing and in 1990 was designated a conservation area (the Churchill Gardens Conservation Area).
